We are aware of issues with the latest versions of VMWare tools that cause ConQuest to fail to start - this is due to changes in the graphics drivers on this platform.
Modern versions of ConQuest should automatically start up without the 3D visualiser if this is the only component which is not working. You can choose the export to Mercury option to view the results there.
Alternatively, you can downgrade VMWare to an older version to use the older graphics drivers.
