Retractions in the Cambridge Structural Database

Modified on Thu, 15 May at 10:24 AM

The CCDC strives to be a reflection of published literature. If an article with associated structures in the CSD is retracted, then the associated structures will also be retracted in the CSD.

For retracted entries in the CSD, the publication record will be maintained but all atomic information (2D diagram and 3D coordinates) is removed along with most of the textual information about the structure, such as compound name, colour, habit and R-factor. A remark is added to the entry indicating the article has been retracted along with a link to the retraction notice.

In online searches of the CSD, the refcode header of the retracted structure will be black, with the words ‘Retracted Structure’ after the refcode.

The CIF downloaded from the CCDC’s Access Structures/WebCSD service will also have the line ‘# This entry has been retracted’ added to it.

As of the May 2025 release, there are 1173 retracted structures in the CSD. A list of structures that have been retracted from the CSD is maintained in the ‘Retracted Structures’ subset, which is updated with each quarterly release.
