What does it mean that a structure in the CSD is 'under review'?

Modified on Tue, 6 Jan at 10:45 AM

A small number of entries included in the CSD have a remark stating that the structure is ‘under review’ and do not have a 2D chemical diagram or 3D model included in the entry.

A number of checks are run on all data prior to their addition to the CSD. These checks may identify issues that we have potential concerns about, for example unexplained similarities to other structures in the CSD or mismatches between the data as described in the paper and the data we currently hold for the relevant entry. In the case where we have a concern about the crystallographic data, the journal will be contacted about our findings and asked to investigate.

The CCDC aims to be a record of all published scientific literature. As these structures have not been retracted by their respective journals, we feel a duty to include these structures in the database in some form. We recognize that investigations by journals can take time, therefore while we await a response, these structures will be added to the CSD with no 3D coordinates or 2D diagrams. This means that the structures won’t appear in the results of a 3D or 2D diagram search of the CSD – but will be findable in all other searches.
