What level of disorder needs to be present to trigger the disorder filter in the CSD?

Modified on Mon, 20 Jan at 10:45 AM

Searches of the Cambridge Structural Database using ConQuest and Mercury can be filtered using a variety of flags and limits such as setting an upper limit on the R-factor, excluding organometallic structure from the search results and excluding disordered structures. This last filter referring to disorder allows a user to remove structures containing crystallographic disorder from their results if they are concerned about this affecting trends in statistical analyses for certain parameters.

The level of disorder referred to in this case is essentially any structure in which there are multiple sites for any non-hydrogen atom generated by disorder. If a structure only exhibits disorder in the location of the hydrogen atoms, this would not be filtered out using the disorder filter in ConQuest or Mercury.
