If multiple CCDC programs fail to start on Windows with an error message such as "Application was not started properly (0xc0000142)" or "VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found", it is probably a result of the Visual C++ runtime library not being installed or being out of date. Please download and install vc_redist.x64.exe from Microsoft's Visual C++ Downloads Page. It is not necessary to uninstall and reinstall the CSD Portfolio.
If this does not fix the problem then it may be an issue with your computer's graphics card or driver, particularly if programs fail to start without an error message or launch but don't display structures properly.
- The first suggestion is to ensure you are using the latest version (check the CCDC's What's New page).
- If that does not help, the next step is to ensure that your graphics system's drivers are fully up-to-date. We recommend downloading the latest drivers directly from the graphic system's manufacturers website. If you are unsure who this is, run the System Information tool (type "System Information" into the Windows search bar) and look under Components -> Display.
- Links for Intel, AMD and NVidia drivers are below.
- If you are using an external monitor, disconnecting it sometimes resolves the issue.
- Lastly, if the above suggestions do not work, we recommend disabling 3D acceleration as discussed in this FAQ: Is there a way to disable 3D acceleration?
Note: if ConQuest is not working but other programs are fine, see our collection of FAQs on ConQuest issues.
